February in My Speech Room

February is one of my favorite months! There is so much to celebrate and so much to learn I’ve rounded up some of my February activities that you can use for your students during our shortest, coldest month, February!

Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays! It provides great natural context to discuss dating and relationships with your students who may struggle to feel confident about dating. It is also a great excuse to eat some chocolate and tell the people in your life how much you love them!

Check out my One Page Speech Language Activities for February for a fun article about Dark Chocolate and problem solving tasks related to relationships and dating!

American Heart Month

It is American Heart Month! Your heart is arguably your most important organ, and heart disease is the number one cause of death in adults in the United States. Learn more about the heart and heart healthy habits with my latest Every Goal Unit (exclusively found in my 21/22 Every Goal Growing Bundle)

This unit includes a high-interest article about The Heart and activities for main idea, comprehension, sequencing, inference, narrative, grammar, and vocabulary. There are also activities for relationships DO’s and DON’T’s and heart-related figurative language.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month! I don't wait until February to teach Black history, but February is a great month to highlight Black Americans in your lessons. Some of my favorite topics/activities are Motown, Jean-Michel Basquiat, interpreting quotes from famous Black Americans and researching the life of an influential Black person. Our school gives daily announcements with BHM stories which are great jumping off points for lessons and I always include my students in our door decorating contest.

Rare Disease Day

Rare Disease Day is February 28th! One of my biggest passions is advocating for and helping families with children who are battling rare diseases. Rare Disease Day is the perfect day to learn about just how many people live with a rare disease (spoiler...it is 1 in 10) and to spread awareness for rare diseases by wearing stripes on 2/28. Learn more about Rare Disease Day at rarediseases.org or in my February One Page Speech Therapy Sheets.

Just a little more to love!

Last and certainly not least, my birthday is in February, so I always get just a little extra love and attention, which I NEVER say no to!

I hope this post will help you fight the winter blues and feel excited about my friend, February!

Leave me a comment and tell me what else you like to do in February!
